Roots of Fight releases limited edition Mike Tyson clothing line
Today’s most popular boxers, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr., are talented beyond belief. However, neither of them — or anyone else active in the sport for that matter — strike pure fear in the hearts of their opponents.
Not the way former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson did more than a quarter-century ago, anyway.
Tyson was an absolute animal prior to his fall from grace. His troubles outside the ring marred an otherwise brilliant professional prized fighting career, but make no mistake, in his prime no one could touch him. Those, of course, who were brave enough to slip through the ropes and tempt fate.
“If you grew up in the 1980s like I did, Mike Tyson was just a legend, a myth. People today, they don’t get it. But, if you were alive in that era and you saw the fights and you heard about them, everybody talked about it. He was a big deal. He was an icon.”
Our fast friends at Roots of Fight have partnered with Tyson to celebrate and memorialize his electrifying accomplishments as one of boxing’s most legendary fighters. In addition to a new clothing collection (check out the first two pieces after the jump), Roots of Fight will explore his boxing roots in an upcoming short film.
We’ve included the introduction teaser video after the jump, which includes interviews about Tyson’s influence with mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters Randy Couture, Urijah Faber, Stephan Bonnar and the aforementioned Griffin.
